Ohio State Route 288 is a short east-west route in northern Morrow County. It is a shortcut around the southside of Galion. As Ohio Route 97 is heading west from Lexington, it veers toward the northwest so it can reach Galion. At the point where this bend to the northwest occurs, Ohio Route 288 is born to serve those who wish to continue west-southwesterly. The west-southwesterly course continues for many miles, but only about seven are home to Ohio Route 288. After about seven miles, Ohio Route 288 is cut off by Ohio Route 309, which decided to jump south out of Galion to take over this alignment toward the west-southwest. Ohio Route 309 thus brings Ohio Route 288 to a close, and that route continues to Marion and Lima.
My photo for Ohio State Route 288 shows the first eastbound trailblazer for those turning off of Ohio Route 309. This is at the western end of Ohio Route 288, south of Galion. Note the junction marker for Ohio Route 61 alongside the trailblazer. Ohio Route 61 splits from Ohio Route 309 just north of here, and it forms a 4-way intersection with Ohio Route 288 a mere block away. This photo was taken on the way home from my tour around northeastern Ohio in October 2022. Back to Ohio Routes 200-299. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
