Ohio State Route 844 is a short north-south connector to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on the east side of the Dayton area. This connector takes the form of a very short freeway, and it isn't even two miles long. It forms a bit of a spur north from the bend in Interstate 675, which runs around the east side of the Dayton area. As Interstate 675 forms the southern end of Ohio Route 844, the entry gate to the Air Force Base forms the northern end. You do have to stop at security and get cleared before you enter the base; when I drove this road, I took the same turnaround as the Google Street View car presumably took. The northern end also spawns ramps connecting to Ohio Route 444, the namesake of Ohio Route 844. Note that the interchange at the southern end of Ohio Route 844 only provides access to and from the south along Interstate 675. Those heading south on Interstate 675 can reach Ohio Route 844 in a convoluted way if they want; they need to exit at Fairfield Road, turn right on Colonel Glenn Highway, and stay right at the loop ramp in the background of the photo below.
My photo for Ohio Route 844 signage shows a junction marker on Colonel Glenn Highway, the southernmost surface road to cross Ohio Route 844. That is to say, Colonel Glenn Highway is just north of Ohio Route 844's southern terminus at Interstate 675, which bends east-west in this vicinity. Travelers looking east will see this sign as they are approaching the crossing under Ohio Route 844, where a loop ramp is provided on the right for these travelers to join Route 844 northbound. (If these travelers want to go south, just go west to Fairfield Road to use the interchange to Interstate 675.) The southwestern Ohio trip of October 2018 served as the venue for me taking this photo. Strangely, local road districts have replaced the usual state highway cutout signs with ones having an unusual shape for the state of Ohio. Every Ohio Route 844 sign has one of the newer, unusual designs, so "844" signs that look like the one in the photo don't seem to exist anymore.
