Ohio State Route 617 is a short east-west route in the southeast corner of Mahoning County; this places it a bit southeast of Youngstown. The Ohio Turnpike (carrying Interstate 76) is never more than a few miles to its north. The western end is at Ohio Route 165 in New Springfield. From that western end, Ohio Route 617 runs easterly for 4 miles to Petersburg. In Petersburg, Ohio Route 617 picks up Ohio Route 170 for a short concurrency. But at the central junction in Petersburg, Ohio Route 170 turns left while Ohio Route 617 turns right, toward the southeast. After about another mile, Ohio Route 617 finds itself at the Pennsylvania border, where it becomes Pennsylvania Highway 351.
My photo for Ohio Route 617 shows the southbound approach to central junction in Petersburg, Ohio. The junction markers in advance of the intersection explain that Ohio Route 170 is about to turn right, whereas Ohio Route 617 will come from the right to turn southerly, into the background. The aperture was looking down pavement labeled as Ohio Route 170, but it becomes labeled as Ohio Route 617 as it continues into the background of the photo. This photo was taken in April 2021, as I was coming home from a trip to Virginia.
