US Route 27 only clips the southwest corner of Ohio, running north-northwesterly from Cincinnati toward Richmond, Indiana. It takes a while for US Route 27 to eventually nudge westward enough to make it over the state line, so US Route 27 spends about 40 miles within Ohio's borders. US Route 27 enters Ohio from the south on a bridge over the Ohio River between Newport, Kentucky, and downtown Cincinnati. US Route 27 cuts west to join US Route 127, US Route 42, and US Route 52 north along the western edge of downtown. From Cincinnati, US Route 27 runs north-northwesterly through rural farmland to Oxford, home of Miami University. At Oxford, US Route 27 bends northwesterly to cross the Indiana state line soon afterward.
