Interstate 277 is a very short east-west connector completing a square of freeways in Akron. At this square of freeways, Interstate 77 arrives at the southeast corner and leaves from the northwest corner. Interstate 76 arrives at the southwest corner and leaves from the northeast corner. The two major Interstates were routed as follows: Interstate 76, coming from the southwest, goes north, then east across two sides of the square. Interstate 77, coming from the south, goes north and then west through town. This leaves Interstate 76 and Interstate 77 sharing a concurrency across the north edge of the square, with no Interstate designation on the south edge of the square. That's where Interstate 277 comes in. That's all Interstate 277 is, really-- it fills in a gap in the Interstate designations. All of Interstate 277 is concurrent with US Route 224, and it's only three and a half miles long. Interstate 76 meets Interstate 277 at its west end, and Interstate 77 terminates Interstate 277 at its east end.
As with all of the Ohio Interstate pages, more information and a full exit list will come in the future. For now, enjoy this general information and a photo of the signage, in a similar fashion to how I do the state and US highway pages.
My photo of Interstate 277 signage in Ohio comes from an interchange along Waterloo Road. This is the first interchange east of Interstate 277's end at Interstate 76. The junction marker faces eastbound travelers approaching the interchange, which is divided in halves. The other half of the ramps are found along Ohio Route 93, which is just to the east. This photo was taken in October 2022 during my grand tour of northeastern Ohio.
