Ohio State Route 309 is a long east-west highway that is situated where central Ohio meets northern Ohio. It is a former alignment of US Route 30 that dips a bit farther south than the modern US Route 30. Ohio Route 309 can be found serving Delphos, Lima, Kenton, Marion, Galion, and Mansfield. The western beginning of Ohio Route 309 splits from the current US Route 30 freeway on the east side of Delphos (it only provides partial access). Ohio Route 309 starts off by heading southeast to Lima, where it turns easterly. It shimmies southeasterly to Kenton, then it shimmies southeasterly to Marion. Ohio Route 309 then corrects back northeastward toward the current US Route 30, but not until it serves Galion. At another directional split providing partial access, Ohio Route 309 converges with the current US Route 30 on the west side of Mansfield.
My photo of Ohio Route 309 signage comes from the east side of Lima, Ohio, where it meets Ohio Route 117. The junction where Ohio Route 309 meets Ohio Route 117 is just east of its interchange with Interstate 75. In the photo, a pair of westbound trailblazers reassures drivers that they are heading west on both Ohio Route 309 and Ohio Route 117, toward downtown Lima. This photo was taken on Leap Day 2016, as I was taking some back roads home from Columbus. Back to Ohio Routes 300-499. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
